The Manifest of the Club Archeus Space

In August 2024, Martin and Thomas founded the Club Archeus.Space.
The idea behind it was to bring to life the thoughts and conclusions of the artist Martian Tsicane to turn them into reality.

The Studio and Its Story

For twenty years, the artist worked in a studio located in an old townhouse right in the historic center of Zurich, before moving to a new one just within sight.

This studio was built directly under the roof gable, well insulated and finished, 3.8 meters high, with a roughly six-square-meter frosted skylight to the east and two small windows to the west. All four windows could only be tilted open, never fully.

In the summer of 2003, during Zurich’s first major heatwave, the studio turned into an oven. Temperatures reached up to 33 degrees Celsius at three o’clock in the morning! Working under these conditions became impossible; proper ventilation was out of reach. Once the heat got in, it stayed. The summer of 2003 was a complete loss in terms of work.

Against his convictions, Martian eventually had no choice but to buy an air conditioner though only for the following year. However, the unit was far too small for the height and size of the space. After a few years, he replaced it with a second, and a few years later, a third. They were always mobile units, since in Zurich’s old town houses it is not permitted to install permanent air conditioning systems.

This situation put the original studio concept to a serious test.

From Heat to Idea

Through this experience, Martian began to engage deeply with climate processes, cooling mechanisms, and energy flows. One day, he came up with the idea of comparing the cooling performance of his air conditioners with that of a tree he could see from his studio window.

He had long known that evaporation is a key element of cooling but when he discovered the enormous scale at which these natural processes operate, he was utterly astonished and deeply impressed.

From Thought to Manifest

Over the years, this led to numerous thought experiments and calculations. As an artist who fundamentally works with proportions in his paintings as well as in his visual thinking Martian developed a new perspective on the climate.

He realized that in today’s climate discussions, the most essential aspect is almost entirely overlooked. His reflections invite us to view the climate from a different angle proportional, intuitive, ingenious as nature is.

This website can therefore be seen as a    Manifest of the artist Martian Tsicane.

The Mission of the Club

The purpose or rather the vision of the Club Archeus Space is to bring these ideas into reality.
